Martha Matthews (Knitter)

Martha M. Knitter, 96, of Delphi, passed away at 8:07 a.m. on Sat., Nov. 17, 2012, at Creasy Springs Health Campus in Lafayette, where she had been a resident for the past month.

Martha was born on Nov. 22, 1915, in Burrows to the late Marion and Maud (Farmer) Matthews.

She was a 1933 graduate of Delphi High School.

She married Harold "Bud" Knitter on Dec. 25, 1935, in Hammond. They had been married over 75 years before he passed on June 3, 2011.

Martha had been employed at Globe Valve in Delphi. She also had worked as a clerk for Orr's Drug Store and as a receptionist for Dr. Tam.

She enjoyed crocheting and fishing.

Martha is survived by daughter, Marian Vogt of Minneapolis; son, Wayne Knitter (wife: Nancy), of Chatsworth, Calif.; 3 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild. She was preceded by her husband; her brothers: Harold and Edward Matthews.

Viewing will be from 2 p.m. until the 3 p.m. service on Tues., Nov. 20, 2012, at Davidson Funeral Home, Delphi with Pastor Bob Duke officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery, Delphi.
