Devon Smith

Memorial services for Devon Smith, labor relation manager for National Steel and Shipbuilding Company were Friday at Greenwood Memorial Park, followed by cremation.
  Mr. Smith, 64, died Sun., Feb. 4, 1979.
  A native of Indiana, he was the son of William Chester and Fannie Hawkins Smith.  He had lived in San Diego since 1962 when he joined NASSCO as director of Industrial Relations.
  A graduate of Delphi High School and of Western Michigan College in Kalamazoo, he was inducted in the college's "Athletic School Hall of Fame" in 1977.  In 1957 he was named "Citizen of the Year" by Rotary Club of Bristol, Pa.  He played basketball and tennis at Western Michigan College and upon graduation was a school teacher and later played and coached professional basketball.
  Mr. Smith was past national chairman of the Industrial Relations Committee of Shipbuilders Council of America.  He was a member of the Industrial Relations Research Association San Diego Personnel Management Club, San Diego Committee on Employment of the Handicapped, the Urban League, the County of San Diego Employee Relations Board, and the Rotary Club.
  Surviving are his wife, Jerry; a son, Dixon and two daughters, Linda and Karen, and a brother, Herb Smith of Delphi.
