Hope Robbins (Coomey)

A. Hope Coomey, 86, of Delphi, died at 12:49 p.m. Aug. 18, 2002, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center, Delphi. She was born Sept. 14, 1915, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her parents were Roy and Grace Alma Robbins. She was a 1933 graduate of Delphi High School. Her marriage was on June 26, 1938. in the St. Joseph parsonage to Joseph E. Coomey. He preceded her in death on May 11, 1991. She was a special services and volunteer coordinator at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center, where she was instrumental in the fund-raising for the activities van. She also worked as a Medicaid caseworker for the Carroll County Division of Family and Children. Mrs. Coomey served on the Delphi City Council from 1996 to 2000. She also worked at Pletcher Hardware in Delphi for 14 1/2 years. She wrote the St. Elizabeth Healthcare column and 4-C Club Chatter for the Carroll County Comet for many years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Delphi, and the church's Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of the St. Elizabeth Hospital Auxiliary and St. Elizabeth Healthcare Auxiliary. She was past president and secretary-treasurer of the Carroll County Council on Aging Board of Directors, and a member of the Delphi American Legion and VFW auxiliaries and the Carroll County Country Club. She enjoyed playing cards, reading, and golfing. Surviving are one son, William Coomey of Chapin, S.C.; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two step-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter and a foster brother. A funeral Mass will be held Thursday at IO a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Father Peter Vanderkolk, Father Ambrose Ziegler, and Father Richard Puetz officiating. Visitation will be today (Wednesday) from 6 to 8 p.m. at Davidson Funeral Home, with a rosary service at 7 p.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Delphi. Memorials may be made to St. Elizabeth Healthcare Activities Fund.
