John Walker

John Earl Walker, 78, Delphi, died June 21, 1992, in St. Elizabeth Healthcare.
  He was born April 26, 1914, the son of Earl Bill and Susanna Cartwright Walker.  His marriage on Feb. 14, 1945, in Boston, Mass., was to Barbara Clawson.
  He graduated in 1933 from Delphi High School and in 1938 from Purdue University.  He served in the US Navy from 1942 to 1945.
  He was president of the Carroll Telephone Company until selling to Mid-Continent Telephone now known as Alltel in 1971.  He was Carroll County Welfare Director from 1971 until 1974, served several terms on the Delphi Public Library Board and was director of the Delphi Library for a short time before retiring.
  He was a member of Delphi United Methodist Church, Delphi American Legion Post 75 and a former member of the Junto Club.  He was active in Bridge-a-rama and was former co-chairman of the Delphi Great Books Club, a discussion group which met regularly for 14 years.
  Also surviving are four daughters; Mary Jane Walker Marzoli of West Lafayette, Suzanna Walker of Indianapolis, Robin Ann Allbaugh of Delphi and Nancy Ellen Peter-Contesse of Snowomish, Wash., one son, Philip Cartwright Walker of Columbia City and six grandsons.
  Visitation is Thursday 5-8 p.m. at Horn Funeral Home.  Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Forest W. Howell officiating.  Burial with military rites will be in Masonic Cemetery.
  Memorials may be made to Delphi Public Library or Carroll County Cancer Association.
