Woodrow Whiteman

William Woodrow (Woody) Whiteman, 69, of Delphi died unexpectedly at 9:29 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, 1983, in the emergency room at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette.
  Born Jan. 16, 1914, in Boone County, his parents were Grover and Frances Harvey Whiteman.  He came to Delphi as a child.  His marriage Aug. 7, 1936, in Reynolds was to Clatia Kennard.  She survives.
  Whiteman had worked in the family business, Whiteman Brothers Elevators, since a young man.  He had owned and operated five elevators in the Carroll County area.
  A graduate of Delphi High School in 1933, he was a member of the Delphi United Methodist Church, charter member of Delphi Lions Club.  Delphi Chamber of Commerce, and the Delphi Community Athletic Boosters.  Whiteman has been involved as a booster of Delphi athletics for many years, and was an avid basketball and football fan.
  Surviving with the wife are one daughter, Deanne Pearson, Rt. 4, Delphi, two sons, Ronald J., Rt. 1, Delphi and Douglas D., Rt. 1, Cutler, four granddaughters and two grandsons; one sister, Mrs. Meredith (Ruby) Roth of Lafayette.  He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
  Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Delphi United Methodist Church with Rev. Donald Ashley officiating.  The body will be in state one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be in Yeoman Cemetery.  Friends may call at Horn Thompson Funeral Home Thursday 4 to 9 p.m.
  Memorial contributions may be made to the Delphi Community Athlete Department in memory of Woody Whiteman.
