Zelda Louise Hemmig (Baer) - Class Of 1934

Louise Hemmig Baer, 94, of Indianapolis, died Saturday, April 28, 2012, at 12:05 a.m. at Manor Care South, in Indianapolis. She had been in failing health and a resident there for 4 years.

She was born June 20, 1917, in Ockley, to the late Philip B. and Nora Loy Hemmig.

Her marriage was to Raymond J. Baer in Delphi, on Nov. 9, 1941, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 1971. She was born and raised in the Delphi area, and moved to Indianapolis in 1953. She was a 1934 graduate of Delphi High School.

She was a bookkeeper for many years at Pearson's and the former Metzger Lumber Yard, both of Delphi. She worked for Unisystems Corp. in Indianapolis as office manager for 23 years, and did bookkeeping at Remex Office Equipment in Indianapolis for 8 years.

She formerly attended church at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Delphi and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Indianapolis. She was a member of the Delta Theta Chi Sorority, and volunteered at the Marion County Senior Citizens Center. She was an avid reader, enjoyed cooking, gardening, her bridge card clubs and traveling with her daughter.

Surviving are a daughter, Karen L. Baer of Indianapolis; brother, Lt. Col. Ralph Brian and Juanita Hemmig of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by a son, R. Michael Baer; sisters, Eva, Dorthea, Dora, Wanda, Edith and Marjorie; and brothers, Melvin and Floyd.

Friends may call Tuesday from 11 a.m. until her funeral at 1 p.m. at Abbott Funeral Home, Delphi, Father Peter Vanderkolk officiating. Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Delphi. Memorial contributions to the donor's choice. Online condolences: abbottfuneralhome@frontier.com
