Margaret L. Burkle, 99, of Muncie and formerly of Delphi passed away at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie on July 3, 2016. Margaret was born on June 19, 1917 in Carroll County, Indiana to the late Miles T. and Ruby E. (Gardner) Martin.
She was a 1935 graduate of Delphi High School. She graduated from Bethel College in Hopkinsville, KY in 1937 and Ball State University in 1964.
She married Albert E. Burkle on Feb. 22, 1941 at Morocco, Indiana and he preceded her on Dec. 13, 1990.
Mrs. Burkle taught for 29 years in Carroll County schools, 12 years at Pyrmont and 11 years at Delphi Community School Corporation. She retired in 1978.
She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Delphi; a Charter Member of the Psi Iota Xi Sorority – Auxiliary Chapter, the Extension Homemakers and the Wednesday Forum.
Margaret enjoyed volunteering at the Carrol County Historical Museum, reading and was an avid sports fan. She especially enjoyed watching Purdue basketball.
Margaret is survived by her son, Martin Burkle and his wife, Elizabeth “Beth” and 3 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
She was also preceded by her brothers, Gardner and George Martin.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the 1:00 p.m. Memorial Service on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Davidson Funeral Home. Rev. Ann Williams officiating. Burial in Paint Creek Cemetery.
