John Sanford “Sandy” Allen, 76, Speedway, died Jan. 24, 1994, in Eagle Valley Health Care. He was married to the former Ellen Lenore McCarthy, who survives. Allen was a Carroll County Deputy Sheriff from 1943-1947, and Carroll County Sheriff from 1947-1950. He retired in 1982 as a security officer with Detroit Diesel Allison, after 32 years of service. He was a member of Speedway United Methodist Church. Surviving with his wife are two sons, John S. Allen Jr. and Carl Lynn Allen; a sister, Betty Jean Smith; and four grandchildren. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Conkle Funeral Home, Speedway Chapel. Burial will be in Washington Park North Cemetery.
