Vernabelle Moore McCandless, 93, formerly of Frankfort and longtime resident of Venice, Fla., passed away May 24, 2009, in the Franklin United Methodist Community where she had lived the past several years.

She was born April 23, 1916, in Delphi, to Fred O. and Florence May (Daily) Foster.

She married Thomas P. Moore on June 14, 1946, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 15, 1952. She then married Henry E. McCandless on Oct. 29, 1977, and he also preceded her in death on Nov. 19, 1982.

She is survived by her children, Thomas F. Moore and Nancy Sloffer; a brother, Melvin Foster; a grandson; and a nephew, who helped with her care, Frank C. McAlister.

She was preceded in death by a sister and brother.

Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday May 27, 2009, at Bunnell Cemetery in Frankfort.
