Robert R. Hughes


  Robert R. Hughes, Sr., 74, of Rt. 2, Monticello, died at 12:43 p.m. May 9, 1993, at the Indiana Veterans Home, West Lafayette, where he had resided for the past year.
  Born Aug. 19, 1918, in Delphi, he was the son of W. Earl and Hester Welker Hughes.  His marriage was on July 20, 1940, in Delphi, to Rosemary Hutton, who survives.
  He was employed at R.E. Pearson Sales for 27 years, retiring in 1981.  He also had worked at Fairfield Manufacturing in Lafayette and at Ross Ball Beverage in Delphi.
  He was a 1936 graduate of Delphi High School and a World War II Navy veteran.
  He was a member of Delphi American Legion Post 75 and a former member of Delphi United Methodist Church.
  He was an avid fisherman.
  Also surviving are two sons, Terrence L. Hughes of Logansport and Robert R. Hughes Jr. of Monticello; a daughter, Zarayda Garrison of Lafayette; two sisters, Joann Shockley of Delphi and Mildred Hahn of Lafayette; a brother, Donald Hughes of Tucson, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by two daughters, a brother, and two grandchildren.
  Services were today at Horn Funeral Home with Rev. Donald Ashley officiating.  Burial was in IOOF Cemetery, Delphi.
