Alene H. Smith (Roach)

  Alene S. Roach, 74, of Lafayette, died at 12:06 a.m. on Feb. 10, 1993, in the emergency room at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette.
  She was born Aug. 27, 1918 in Delphi, to Herbert "Herb" and Flossie Gay Smith.  Her marriage on Feb. 25, 1940, in Delphi, was to Robert C. Roach and he survives.
  She graduated in 1936 from Delphi High School and was a graduate of Lafayette Business College.  She was a Girl Scout Brownie leader for eight years while living in Delphi and was a member of Tri Kappa Sorority in Delphi.
  She attended St. Mary's Cathedral in Lafayette.
  Mrs. Roach formerly was a receptionist in the office of the Dean of Men and Women at Purdue and later a secretary for the office of the Purdue Marching Band.  During World War II, she worked in a defense plant in North Carolina building airplanes.
  Also surviving are two daughters, Janice Weber, Hoffman Estates, Ill., and Christine Wenrs, LaCross, Wisc., and four grandchildren.
  Services were Thursday in Delphi with Horn Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.  Burial was in Masonic Cemetery.
  Memorials may be made to the Delphi Public Library.
