Helen Ashba (Stockton) - Class Of 1937

  Helen M. Ashba Stockton, 88, passed away Sept. 4, 2007, at 3:25 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Lafayette.  She had been in failing health for the past few months, and a patient at the hospital since the previous Friday.
  Mrs. Stockton was born Nov. 13, 1918, in Carroll County to Ruel and Lelia Buck Ashba.  Her marriage was to Frank M. Stockton in Lafayette on July 28, 1938.  He preceded her in death Feb. 28, 1980.
  She was raised in Delphi, and after her marriage lived in South Bend for 40 years.  She moved back to 111 N. Wilson St. in Delphi in 1980.  She also lived at Carroll Manor in Delphi for two years before moving to St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center in June 2004.
  Mrs. Stockton worked at the former Ball Band/Uniroyal Tire Co., in Mishawaka for 30 years.  She retired from there in 1980 as a lab technician.
  She was a 1937 graduate of Delphi High School.  She was a member of Delphi United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the Love Circle.  She belonged to the American Turners of South Bend, an athletic club where she and her husband bowled.  She was also a member of the International "1918" Club.
  Mrs. Stockton enjoyed gardening, traveling, painting and photography.
  Surviving are a son, Dale Stockton (wife: Judy) of Owasso, Okla., a daughter, Kay Seurynck (husband: Joe) of Delphi; a stepson, Frank Stockton of Morristown, Tenn.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
  Mrs. Stockton was preceded in death by a sister, Mabel Brewer, a brother, Ivan Ashba, and a step-daughter-in-law, Tommie Stockton.
  Services were Sept. 8 at Delphi United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Todd Ladd.  Burial was at Highland Cemetery in South Bend.
  Memorial contributions may be made to Delphi United Methodist Church, St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center or Carroll Manor.  Envelopes are available at the church.
  Abbott Funeral Home in Delphi was in charge of arrangements.
