Richard Been - Class Of 1937

  Richard Paul Been, 79, rural Delphi, died at 7:12 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1998, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette.
  Born Oct. 29, 1919, in Burrows he was the son of Paul Varney and Beatrice Gardner Been.
  A veteran of World War II, he served in Germany with the United States Army from 1944 to 1947.  He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars at Logansport.
  A 1937 graduate of Delphi High School, he was a carpenter for National Homes in Lafayette.  Later, in Granville, Ohio, he built homes, and developed housing divisions in Jacksonville, Fla., Brunwick, Ga., and Atlanta, Ga.  He retired in 1991, and returned to the family farm in Liberty Township.
  He was a member of Burrows Presbyterian Church.
  Surviving are one son, Stephen R. Been, Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Nancy Been Sweat, and Katherine Been Thomas; a brother, Herbert V. Been, Delphi; two sisters, Martha Justice and Marjorie Reynolds, both of Logansport; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
  Memorial services will be Friday at 2 p.m at Cree Funeral Home, Camden, with the Rev. Ellis Gasser officiating.  Burial will be in Brown Church Cemetery, rural Delphi.
