John Dickison - Class Of 1938

John Byard Dickison, Sr., 91, years old of West Lafayette, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2011 at 10:10 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Central.

He was born March 14, 1920 in Pyrmont, Indiana, to the late James Byard Dickison and Margaret Louella (Kashner) Dickison.

In 1938, John graduated from Delphi High School and went on to attend Indiana Business College. He served his country in the United States Army from 1941 to 1947 in the New Guinea Campaign. John received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars and the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with a Bronze Service Star. On February 9,1945 he was wounded in Luzon, Philippines and he received the Purple Heart.

On September 17, 1949, John married Phyllis Staley in Lafayette. She preceded him in death on February 11, 2006.

He worked for the Hoosier Motor Club for 34 years, retiring in 1984.

John was a member of Hope Chapel Presbyterian Church. He was a life member of the Loyal Order of Moose 1529, Fellowship Moose, VFW 1154, and DAV 27. John was also a member of the Legion of the Moose, American Legion Post 11, and 40 & 8. John enjoyed Rummy and Euchre. Surviving are his children, John B. Dickison, Jr. (wife: Vicky) of Dumfries, VA, James W. Dickison (wife: Suzi), and Donna Lynn Stephenson (husband: Bob), both of Lafayette. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Friends will be received at Fisher-Loy Funeral Chapel on Saturday, October 29 from 10 a.m. until noon.

Services will be held at noon with Dr. Richard McQuinn officiating. Interment will follow in the Dayton Cemetery.
