Helen Scott (Hughes) - Class Of 1938

Helen Hughes, 93, formerly of Delphi and Michigan City for over 50 years before becoming a resident at Mulberry Health & Retirement Community passed away on April 19, 2014 at Mulberry, Indiana.

Helen was born on Nov. 4, 1920 in Delphi to the late Ruie and Clara (Jenkins) Scott. She was a 1938 graduate of Delphi High School.

Helen married Harry Gene Hughes on Nov. 19, 1938 in Delphi. He preceded her in 1981.

Helen was a waitress at the Snack Shack and was the Fountain Manager at Woolworths in Michigan City for over 16 years.

Mrs. Hughes was a member of the Hillcrest United Methodist Church in Michigan City. She was active at the Michigan City Senior Center.

Helen enjoyed reading, writing poetry, and serving faithfully in her Church. She loved the time she spent with her family and friends.

Helen is survived by her daughters: Marlene Collins (husb: Fred) of Delphi and Anita Flaitz (husb: Bruce) of Ft. Myers, FL; son, Brad Hughes (wife: Sue) of La Porte; daughter-in-law, Carol Hughes of Michigan City; sister, Phyllis Dias of Carrollton, TX; 6 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was also preceded by a daughter, Priscilla K. Hughes; son, Rickey W. Hughes Sr. and sister, Wilma Miller.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the 2:00 p.m. service on Thurs., April 24, 2014 at Davidson Funeral Home, Delphi. Pastor Dan Fisher officiating. Burial will be in Morning Heights Cemetery, Delphi.
