Esther E. Welker, 75, of Delphi, died at 2 a.m. Oct. 18, 1995, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center, where she had resided for 17 months. Born Jan. 25, 1920, in Walton, she was the daughter of Stewart and Gertrude Wolever Welker. She was a 1938 graduate of Delphi High School and a 1945 graduate of the Franklin Boulevard School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse in the Cook County Memorial Hospital for several years and then practiced nursing in Lafayette, Indianapolis, California, and Alaska before returning to Indiana to care for her parents. She was a nurse at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis prior to her retirement. She moved back to Delphi in 1986. She was a former member of Delphi United Methodist Church. Surviving are three sisters, Kathryn “Peg" Stoner of Delphi, Martha Jane Darr of Columbia, Mo., and Marybelle Wright of Monticello. She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Private family services were held Saturday at Horn Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Mullikin officiating. Burial was in IOOF Cemetery, Delphi. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
