Willie Irelan - Class Of 1938

Willie D. Irelan, 81, of West Lafayette, formerly of Delphi, died at 7:26 a.m. Jan. 19, 2001, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette. He had resided at the Indiana Veterans Home, West Lafayette, since 1995. He also had lived in Colorado for 28 years. Born April 1, 1919, in Carroll County, he was the son of Elmer S. and Della Pugh Irelan. His wife, Gracie Mary, died in 1971. Mr. Irelan enlisted in the Army on Oct. 14, 1942, and served until retiring on Dec. 31, 1963, as a sergeant E-5. He was a former member of the Pittsburg Church of the Brethren. Surviving are four sisters, Mary Stokes of Brookston, Elsie Tully of Monticello, Martha Smith of Burnettsville, and Anna Bilyeu of Reynolds. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. Services were Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home with Pastor Nord Zootman officiating. Burial was in Spring Creek Cemetery, rural Brookston. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
