Robert R. Buck, 86, retired from Merck



FANWOOD -- Robert R. Buck, 86, died Friday (Oct. 27, 2006) at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield. Born in Carroll County, Ind., he lived in Roselle before moving to Fanwood in 1953.

Mr. Buck was a graduate of Delphi High School in Delphi, Ind., and received his bachelor of science in chemistry from Indiana University in 1942. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as an officer in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946.

He was employed as a chemist with Merck & Company in Rahway from 1946 until he retired in 1986 as Assistant Director of Regulatory Affairs.

A longtime member of the Fanwood Presbyterian Church, he served on the Board of Trustees, on the Foundation, and served several terms on the Session.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Lucille Nelson Buck, in 1982; and his second wife, Gertrude Friese, in 2005

He is survived by his son, Carl N. Buck of Cupertino, Calif.; his daughter, Nancy Green and her husband, Ron of Denville; and his grandson, Sean Green.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 5, 2006) at the Fanwood Presbyterian Church (corner of LaGrande Ave. and Martine Ave.) in Fanwood. Interment will be at Remington Cemetery in Remington, Ind. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Ave., Fanwood.
