He was the son of Bert and Bertha Schnieb Mears.
He had resided in the home that he was born in until going to live with his son. Mr. Mears, 78, of Delphi, died unexpectedly at 7:25 a.m. on Nov. 9, 2005, at the home of his son Tom.
He was a 1946 graduate of Delphi High School.
Mr. Mears farmed all of his life in Carroll County.
He was a member of the Delphi United Methodist Church, and as a young man, belonged to the Rural Youth Program. He enjoyed vegetable gardening.
Surviving are two sons, George Mears (wife: Deb) and Thomas "Tom" Mears (wife: Julie), both of Delphi; two daughters, Dorotha "Dottie" Rouse (husband: Scott) of Indianapolis and Melissa "Lisa" Maxwell (husband: Charles "Chuck") of Ockley; two brothers, Sherry Mears (wife: Lois) and Richard Mears (wife: Magdalene), both of Delphi; two sisters, Elizabeth Downham (husband: George) of Deer Creek and Mary Helen Abbott (husband: Arnold) of Delphi; a sister-in-law, Ruth Shultheis (husband: Charles) of Brookston; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother Kenneth.
