Don Rhine - Class Of 1948

Don Rhine

Donald Rhine, 87, formerly of Carroll County, Indiana, passed away, surrounded by his family, on Dec. 5, 2017 at Franciscan Health in Lafayette. Don was born on June 8, 1930 in Tippecanoe County to the late David S. and Mary A. (Merrill) Rhine. He was a 1948 graduate of Delphi High School and a 1962 graduate of Purdue University.


He served in the US Air Force from 1950-1953.

He married Helen L. Long at the Delphi Wesleyan Church on June 30, 1951 and she preceded him on June 5, 2007.

Mr. Rhine retired after 31 years as the Chief Agricultural Engineer in the Agriculture Dept. at Purdue University.

He had served from 1996-2004 as a Carroll County Commissioner. He was a member of the Rossville United Methodist Church and former member of the Delphi Lions Club.

He enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his children: Monica Rhine of Monticello, Donald Dennis Rhine (Pam) of Lafayette, Marcia Young (Rodney) of Hebron and Terri Jo Webb (Scott) of Haskell, OK; sisters: Imogene Reed of Colorado Springs, CO and Betty Smith (Ray) of Sheridan, WY; 9 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, 21great great grandchildren, 12 step-great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

He was also preceded by siblings: John Rhine, Virginia Morgan, Mary Lauderdale, Maxine Ward, Roscoe Rhine, Maurice Rhine, Paul Rhine and Ruth Davis.

Visitation will be from 3-7:00 p.m. on Dec. 8, 2017 at Davidson Funeral Home, Delphi. Funeral services will be at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. on Dec. 9, 2017 with Pastor Bob Raschka officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery, Delphi with Military Graveside Rites by the Carroll County Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions in Don's memory may be made to the Rossville United Methodist Church.
