Dorthy Bair (Demerly) - Class Of 1944

Dorothy "Dot" M. Hurst Demerly, 84, of West Lafayette, died at 4:10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010, at Cumberland Pointe in West Lafayette.

Born May 28, 1926, in Lafayette, she was the daughter of the late John and Flora Mae Stark Bair. She was a 1944 graduate of Delphi High School.

On April 25, 1947, she married William F. Hurst, and they had five children. On July 29, 1972, she married Francis Demerly, and he survives.

Mrs. Demerly worked as a waitress for Holiday Inn for many years and retired from the Tippecanoe County Clerk's Office. She attended St. Lawrence Catholic Church.

Surviving with her husband are four children, Diana Currie (husband: Richard) of Winter Haven, Fla., Rex Hurst (wife: Patty) of Lafayette, Trudie Kopf (husband: Steve) of West Lafayette and Bonnie Brummett (husband: Rex) of Brookston; five stepchildren, Lynn Zachmanoglou (husband: Terry) of West Lafayette, John Demerly (wife: Nancy) of Wolcott, Tina Auch (husband: Matt) of Lebanon, Mark Demerly (partner: David Chalsie) of Indianapolis and Eric Demerly (wife: Julie) of West Lafayette; and one sister, Mary Ellen Davidson (husband: Max) of Zephyrhills, Fla.

Also surviving are 2 sisters-in-law, Evelyn Bair of LaPorte and Helen Rooze of Lafayette; 2 brothers-in-law, Harold Demerly and Ben Demerly, both of Lafayette; and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy loved her family dearly, especially her 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. On Oct. 18, 1963, one of her twin daughters, Billie Jean, who was a twin of Bonnie's, passed away at age 4. Also preceding her in death were a sister, Vera Baker; 2 brothers, John D. Bair and Jesse Bair; and a granddaughter, Cassie Walker.

Friends may call 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010, at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home in Brookston. Service there at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, Fr. David Buckles officiating. Entombment will follow in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette. Memorial donations may be made to the Dorothy M.
