Robert Callaway - Class Of 1943

Robert D. "Bob" Calloway, 78, or Camden, died at 8:13 a.m. on Dec. 14, 2003, in Home Hospital, where he had been a patient for one week.  He had been in failing health for the past year.
    Born in Carroll County on Jan. 31, 1925, he was the son of Willard and Minnie Wise Calloway.  He was a 1943 graduate of Delphi High School.
    He married Jane A. Maloney on Oct. 5, 1946, in Logansport, and she died on Aug. 13, 1996.
    Mr. Calloway served in the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II from 1943 to 1946, stationed in the European Theater.  He was an iron worker for 35 years and a member of the Ironworkers Local #379 in Lafayette.  He retired in 1982.
     He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Camden American Legion Post #413, where he was a past commander, and 40 & 8 Voiture 364.  He was a life member of  Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9383 of Delphi.
     Surviving are two sons, Robert B. "Bob" Calloway of Delphi and John Calloway of Carmel; a daughter, Elizabeth "Beth" Horner of Lafayette; two brothers, William Calloway of Royal Center and Glen Calloway of North Manchester; and two sisters, Ruth A. Hipsher and Genieve Briggs, both of Logansport; and five grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by two brothers.
    Services were today (Wednesday) at 10 a.m. at Abbott Funeral Home.  Burial with Camden American Legion military rites was at Wise Cemetery, Camden.
