Robert Doerr - Class Of 1944

Robert J. Doerr Sr., 73, of Delphi, died at 7:48 p.m. Oct 5, 1999, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette. He had been a patient there since Sept. 8 and ill for the last six months. Born May 7, 1926, in Delphi, he was the son of Peter and Mary McQuerter Doerr. His first marriage was on June 28, 1958, in Delphi, to Eleanor Allen White, who died July 2, 1993. He then married Mildred Hildebrandt Daniels on March 5, 1995, in Frankfort, and she survives. He was a 1944 graduate of Delphi High School and served in the US Army’s 315th, 79th Division infantry during World War II. He was stationed in the European theater. Mr. Doerr retired from Ross Gear in Lafayette in 1984 after working there 32 years, primarily as a crane operator. He was a member of the Delphi Christian Church, Delphi VFW Post 9383, Local UAW at Ross Gear, and he was a Boy Scout leader for many years. He enjoyed camping, the outdoors, and woodworking. He also volunteered at the Delphi Senior Citizens Center. Also surviving are three sons, Robert J. Doerr Jr. and David White, both of Lafayette, and Allen White of Delphi; two daughters, Elizabeth McTigue of Delphi and Tresa Nette of Logansport; two stepdaughters, Rita Johnson of Delphi and Debra K. Emmerson of Fort Wayne; a sister, Peggy Pearson of Delphi; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters. Services were Friday at Abbott Funeral Home with Clee Reddinger officiating. Burial was in IOOF Cemetery, Delphi, with Delphi American Legion military rites.
