Richard Shonk - Class Of 1943

 

James Richard “Dick” Shonk, 74, West Lafayette, died Nov. 5, 1999, in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette.

The son of Orval and Mary Wagoner Shonk, he was born Aug. 9, 1925, in Carroll County.

Mr. Shonk was a member of First Baptist Church in Camden, a 50-year member of Mt. Zion Masonic Lodge 211 F& AM at Camden. He graduated in 1943 from Camden High school, earned a bachelor of science degree from Manchester College and a master’s from Indiana University. He also attended University of Mexico in Mexico City, Mexico.

He taught in the language department at Indiana University, then worked at Delco/General Motors as a technical writer, retiring in 1979.

Surviving are one sister, Marjorie Clauer of Nashville, Tenn. A sister and a brother preceded him in death.

Services were Monday in Cree Funeral Home, officiated by the Rev. Ray Herriman. Burial was in Camden Cemetery.
