Benny D. Teel, 96, of rural Brookston, IN, passed away in his home on Monday, August 10, 2021, at 3:50 PM. He was born on May 8, 1925, to the late Ben and Hulda (Schnieb) Teel. His marriage was to Marjorie Ann Shaffer in Ockley, IN on August 11, 1946, and she preceded him in death on September 26, 2012.
He was a 1943 graduate of Camden High School. Benny was a milk inspector for the State of Indiana for a few years, then started farming with his dad and brother and later with his own sons in White County, raising grain, dairy cows, cattle and hogs and grew popcorn for Orville Redenbacher for many years. He was a longtime member of the Chalmers Community Church, where he taught Sunday school, was a trustee, was on the church finance committee and played on their dart ball team.
He and his wife enjoyed square dancing with the Whirly Twirlers and playing Euchre with their friends. Benny and his family enjoyed traveling, especially to Turkey Run State Park and other places. He liked to fish and loved going to Canada with his friends for their annual fishing trip. Benny was a longtime board member of the White County Farm Bureau and was actively involved with Gideon's International. He was active with Grief Buddies, a local grief support group that would get together monthly, and he dearly enjoyed his special friend Kay that he met there. Benny's family was everything to him. He loved the family dinners and gatherings they would share. His deep-seeded faith in God, hard work on his farm and the love of his family, was a life well lived.
Surviving are three sons; ten grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Benny was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlene Carter; a son, Max Teel; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Phyllis Teel; and a daughter-in-law, Janice Teel.
