Robert Schnepp - Class Of 1939

 

Robert John Schnepp, 88, of 7304 N. County Line Road East, Lafayette, died at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at his residence. He had battled cancer for one year.

Born May 3, 1921, in Battle Ground, he was the son of the late Charles and Minnie Gilpin Schnepp.

He was a 1939 graduate of Delphi High School, and graduated from an electronics school in Louisville, Ky. He served in the Army during World War II, in the European Theater supplying the front lines. He was in the Battle of the Bulge.

On Jan. 25, 1942, he married Mary E. Wilcox in Delphi, and she survives.

Mr. Schnepp worked for 411/2 years at Alcoa in Lafayette, retiring April 1, 1983. He also farmed for many years in Deer Creek Township on his family farm.

He was an active member of Colburn United Methodist Church. He was a member of Alcoa Retires Club and 25 Year Club. He was a Washington Township (Tippecanoe County) Farm Bureau director. He enjoyed wood working, and radio and TV repair.

Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Patricia Van Hoosier (husband: Lloyd) of Rossville; and a son, Leslie Schnepp (wife: Pam) of Wood Dale, Ill.

Also surviving are 5 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant grandson, David.
