Russell E. Rider, 82, of Elberton, Ga., died Feb. 18, 2003, at Elbert Memorial Hospital. Born in Carroll County, he was the son of Floyd and Iva Howell Rider. He married Marjorie Norris Rider, and she survives. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of world War II and a retired farmer. Also surviving are three daughters, Joyce Kerlin Lantz of Long Beach, Calif., JoElla Manning of Green Cove Springs, Fla., and Meredith A. Crisp of Jacksonville, Fla.; a son, Byron Rider of Delphi; a brother Leo Rider of Delphi; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorotha Kerlin and a son, Floyd “Buddie” Rider. Services and burial were Feb. 21 in Tignal, Ga.
