Glenn Harner - Class Of 1939

Glenn R. Harner, 80, of Delphi, died at 8:42 p.m. Nov. 10, 1999, at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.  He had been a patient there for 10 days.
  Born March 23, 1919, in Delphi, he was the son of Sherman and Elsie Wandrie Harner.  His marriage was on April 9, 1939, in Rossville, to E. Irene Staley Harner, who survives.
  He worked for the City of Delphi as water superintendent for 27 years, retiring in 1987.
  He attended Delphi schools,
  A veteran of World War II, he served in the Navy in the South Pacific, and operated the LSM 282 landing craft.
  He was a member of Living Faith Church of the Brethren, Indiana National Guard, Delphi American Legion Post 75, Delphi Masonic Lodge, and the American Water Works Association.
  Mr. Harner served on both the Carroll County Zoning Board and the Zoning Board of Appeals for several years.
  He enjoyed fishing and traveling with his wife.
  Also surviving are one daughter, Marilyn Strong of Panama City, Fla.; two sisters, Alma Austin of Lafayette and Margaret Best of Delphi; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  Two brothers are deceased.
  Services were Saturday at Abbott Funeral Home with Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating.  Burial was in Masonic Cemetery, with Delphi American Legion military rites.
