Eugene Crowden - Class Of 1940

  Eugene Edward Crowden, Jr., 2428 Brentwood Place, died Tuesday, July 22,1985, in a Richmond County hospital.
  The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Platt's Funeral Home with Dr. Feith F. Taylor and Chaplain Eugene B. Norris officiating.  Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens, Langley, S.C. with full military honors.
  Mr. Crowden was a native of Mulberry, Ind. and lived in Augusta for 20 years.  He was a retired colonel in the U.S. Army after 28 years and a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.  He was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Infantry Badge and Presidential Unit Citation Medal.
  He was inducted into the Officer's Candidate School Hall of Fame in 1983 and was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church.  He was a member of the Retired Officers Association, National Association for Uniformed Services, the Disabled American Veterans, Armed Forces Relief and Benefit Association and past member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 205.
  Survivors include his wife Bonnie Jean Crowden, his father, Eugene E. Crowden Sr, Mulberry, two sons, Gary G. Crowden, Herndon, Va., and Ronald G. Crowden, Fort Benning; a daughter, Victoria R. Crowden, Norcross, and two brothers; David Crowden, Lafayette, Ind., and Dr. John Crowden, Berea, Ky.
  The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
