Fred Newman - Class Of 1940

 Fred J. "Pinky" Newman, 77, of 2022 Albany St., Lafayette, died at 11:40 a.m. Jan. 25, 2000, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette.
  Born Jan. 26, 1922, in Delphi, he was the son of Earl and Lulu Casad Newman.  He moved from Delphi to Lafayette 45 years ago.
  His marriage was on Sept. 24, 1950, in Lafayette, to Lois E. Carlson, who survives.
  He graduated from Delphi High School in 1940 and was a production supervisor for Tippecanoe Foods, Inc., West Lafayette, for 30 years, retiring in 1984.
  Mr. Newman served in the Air Force during World War II, from 1942 to 1945.
  He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir.  He enjoyed sports, especially IU basketball and NASCAR racing.
  Also surviving are two sons, Gary J. Newman of Columbus, Ohio, and Jeffrey M. Newman of Lafayette; and Jeffrey M. Newman of Lafayette; and five grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
  Services were Friday in Lafayette with burial in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, West Lafayette.
  Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association.
