Mary Shepard (Johns) - Class Of 1940

 Mary Elizabeth Shepard Johns, 78, of 701 Armory Rd., Delphi, died at 6:02 p.m. May 25, 2000, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare.  She had been a patient there since January 1997.
  Born Nov. 9, 1921, in Tippecanoe Township, she was the daughter of Frank L. and Marie McDonald Shepard.  Her marriage was to Charlie R. Johns on Oct. 23, 1939, in Lafayette, and he died March 17, 1998.
  She was a waitress for the Sportsman Inn in Monticello, and a waitress for 15 years at Sarge Oaks in Lafayette, retiring in 1984.
  She was a 1940 graduate of Delphi High School, and attended St. Mary's of the Woods College in Terre Haute.  She enjoyed the outdoors and collecting antiques.
  Mrs. Johns was a former member of Yeoman United Methodist Church and Tri Kappa Sorority.
  Surviving are two sons, Charles W. "Bill" Johns of Chicago, and Mark L. Johns of Marana, Ariz.; two daughters, Cherie Larimore of West Lafayette and Mary Beth Johns Whitaker of Delphi; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by an infant son.
  Services were Tuesday at Abbott Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Ellcessor officiating.  Burial was in Masonic Cemetery, Delphi.
  Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
