Robert Huff - Class Of 1944

Robert "Bob" Huff, 81, of Delphi, unexpectedly passed away Jan. 4, 2008, at 9:25 a.m. in his home.

He was born Sept. 6, 1926, in Hazelcrest, Ill., to the late Robert H. and Leeta Lou Adams Huff. His mother died when he was a child. His father then married Dorothy Weiland Huff, his stepmother. His marriage was to M. Darlene Kempf in Delphi on Oct. 26, 1946, and she preceded him in death Jan. 2, 2007.

Mr. Huff graduated from Delphi High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving from Sept. 27, 1944, to Aug. 5, 1946, as a tank driver in the European Theatre. He received the following medals: German Occupation Medal; Victory Medal; European Eastern Theater Ribbon with 2 bronze stars; and a Good Conduct medal.

He worked for Snyder & Lehmen Sheet Metal in Lafayette for 41 years. After retiring from there, he worked for 10 years at the Delphi Senior Citizens Housing.

Mr. Huff was a member of the Camden First Baptist Church and Delphi American Legion Post #75. He was a 40- year member and past Grand Master of the Delphi Masonic Lodge. He belonged to Sheet Metal Union Local #20 for 59 years and was an active member for 42 years.

His hobbies were auto racing, camping and traveling.

Surviving are a son, Robert T. "Robb" Huff (wife: Debra) of Delphi; a brother, Donald Huff (wife: Betty) of Delphi; three grandchildren, Michelle Rogers (husband: Denny) of Monticello, Angie Finn (husband: Mike) of Plymouth and Rob Huff (wife: Kari) of Knox; and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Huff was preceded in death by a daughter, Marcia, an infant sister, Dorothy, and an adult sister, Jenny.
