William R. Quinn - Class Of 1943

 William R. "Bill" Quinn, 84, died at 3 a.m., Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at Cumberland Pointe Health Campus, formerly George Davis Manor, in West Lafayette.  He had resided there for the past 18 months.
  Born Feb. 10, 1925, in Delphi, he was the son of the late Millard and Edna Best Quinn.  His marriage was on March 24, 1946, in Delphi, to Roberta J. Shaffer, who preceded him in death on March 9, 2008.
  Mr. Quinn and his wife moved from Delphi to West Lafayette in 1995.
  He graduated from Delphi High School in 1943.  He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in botany in 1950 from Indiana University and a Master's degree in education from Purdue University in 1962.
  A U.S. Army veteran, he was stationed in Hawaii in the medical detachment unit from 1943-1946.
  Mr. Quinn began his teaching career in 1950 at the former Carson School near Patton in Carroll County, where he was also the principal.  He then taught at Cutler for three years before taking a position at the former Hillcrest Elementary School, now Delphi Community Elementary School.
  He retired from teaching in 1989.
  Mr. Quinn was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Delphi and the Indiana State Teachers Association.
  His hobbies were hiking, bicycle riding and photography.
  Surviving are two sons, Joseph Quinn (wife: Nancy) and David M. Quinn, both of West Lafayette, and two grandchildren, Mindy Quinn (fiancee; Jason Mauch) of West Lafayette and Zachary Quinn at home.
  Graveside services were held Saturday at the Masonic Cemetery in Delphi.  The Rev. Bill McLean officiated.

  Arrangements were handled by Abbott Funeral Home in Delphi.
