Robert Keith Lane, 84, Attica, passed away at his home on Thursday, July 10, 2014, at 3:30 a.m. following an illness with cancer.Robert was born April 5, 1930 in Buck Creek, Indiana. He was the son of the late Wilbur E. and Clova (Ottinger) Lane. He was raised in Delphi, graduating from Delphi High School in 1948. Following graduation, Robert enlisted in the U.S. Navy and made a career in the military service. He served for 21 years in the U.S. Navy and at the time of his honorable discharge in 1969, Robert had attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer serving as a hospital corpsman. He had served during the Korean and Vietnam wars. Following his discharge from the service, Robert worked at Hysters in Danville, IL; Olins in Covington; John Deere in Williamsport and retired from the Indiana State Highway Department in Veedersburg in 1992.Robert was a life member and past commander of the V.F.W. Post # 3318 of Attica; member of the American Legion Post # 75 of Delphi; life member of the D.A.V. # 27 in Lafayette; member of the Eagles Lodge # 2596 of Attica. Robert was an active member of the Attica First United Methodist Church and active in the Methodist Thrift Shop.On March 29, 1976, Robert married Tillie B. (Timberlake) Jarvis in Attica.He leaves behind his wife, Tillie of 38 years; two sons, Jeff (Karen) Lane, Bismark, IL and Robert L. Lane, Austin, TX; a daughter, Suzanne Barton, Mississippi; a stepson, Brian (Kathy) Jarvis, Attica and a stepdaughter, Lisa (Jeff) Mitton, Attica; a brother, Art (Ida) Lane, Delphi; two sisters, Maxine Brewer, Monticello and Carol (Paul) O'Ferrell, Delphi; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilbur and Leroy Lane; three stepsons, Darrell, Carl and an infant Bruce Jarvis; two infant stepdaughters, Kathy and Darlene Jarvis.Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Saturday, July 12th, from 12:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Dan Jordan officiating. Burial with military honors by the local V.F.W. and American Legion along with the U.S. Navy will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica.Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors. -
