Don Sass

Donald Sass, 85, of Delphi passed away at St. Elizabeth East in Lafayette on September 13, 2015. Donald was born on January 6, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Ernest H. Sass, Sr. and Carol K. (Eding) Sass. He was a 1948 graduate of Delphi High School.

Mr. Sass served in the US Navy from 1951-1954, during the Korean Conflict and served on the Aircraft Carrier USS Essex as a radar operator.

He married Patricia “Patsy” McKay on December 3, 1955 in Lafayette and she survives.

Donald retired in 1992 from Gerber Globe Valve in Delphi where he had been employed for over 44 ½ years. He was the superintendent in the Foundry & Core. Dept.

Mr. Sass was a member of the American Legion in Delphi and a lifetime member of the Delphi VFW and Am Vets.

Don enjoyed woodworking, gardening, playing golf and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan.

Along with his wife Patsy of 59 years, he is survived by his daughter, Kathy Mylet (Joe) of Camden; sister, Ida Mullins of Florida; grandchildren: Scott Toman of Delphi, Erin Dzuba (Zack) of Indianapolis, and Sean Mylet of Camden; great grandchildren: Josiah, Johnathan, Colm, and Jenapher.

He was preceded by his parents, 3 infant children: Don, Karen and Mary Ann; brothers: Ernest H. Sass, Jr. and Richard D. Sass.

Visitation will be on Thursday, September 17, 2015 from 4-7:00 p.m. at Davidson Funeral Home, Delphi with services there on Friday, September 18, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. with Father Bob Williams officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Military graveside rites by the Carroll County Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Kidney Foundation or the St. Joseph Catholic Church.
