Helen L. Vaughan, 90, a former resident of Delphi, died at 1:55 p.m. on March 8, 2003, at the Shepherd of the Hill Nursing Home in Kendallville.  She had moved there in October 2001, because of her failing health and to be closer to her daughter.
  Born near Delphi on Oct. 14, 1912, she was the daughter of William and Lula Mellinger McDowell.  She graduated from Delphi High School in 1929.
  Her marriage was to Harold A. Vaughan on Aug. 5, 1939, in Delphi, and he died on Feb. 11, 1997.
  Mrs. Vaughan was a homemaker, and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Delphi.  She was also a member of Psi Iota Xi sorority, enjoyed playing bridge, and she was in many card clubs.
  Surviving are a son, William "Bill" Vaughan of Bloomington; a daughter, Sara Elliott of Rome City; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
  Two brothers and two sisters are deceased.
  Services were March 11 in Delphi, with burial at Morning Heights Cemetery.  Abbott Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
  Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Delphi or Shepherd of the Hill Nursing Home in Kendallville.
