George Wagoner - Class Of 1929

 George W. Wagoner, M.D., 78, Delphi, died at 10:09 a.m. April 17, 1990, at Home Hospital, Lafayette, where he had been a patient for 16 days.
  Born in Carroll County Sept. 26, 1911, he was the son of Edward D. and Della Replogle Wagoner.  On June 11, 1935, he was married in Rockfield to Betty L. Kasch, who survives.
  A 1929 graduate of Delphi High School and 1935 graduate of Indiana University Medical School, Wagoner served his internship at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.  He took over his father's medical practice in Burrows in 1936, and operated there until moving the office to Delphi following World War II.  He retired and closed his practice in 1981.  He also served on the staff of Home Hospital and St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center in Lafayette.
  Wagoner served as a major in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.
  He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Delphi, where he was a deacon and an elder.  He was his church's delegate to Presbytery for many years.  He was also a member of Indiana State Medical Association, the American Medical Association, Carroll County Medical Society, and a life member of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
  Other memberships include Delphi American Legion Post 75, where he was past commander, and current member of the board of directors: Carroll County Country Club, Elks Lodge 66 in Logansport, and a former member of Camden Masonic Lodge.
  In 1982, Dr. Wagoner was presented the Samuel Milroy Award by Delphi Chamber of Commerce.  The same year he was also presented a certificate of commendation by the Delphi American Legion Post and the Ladies Auxiliary.  In 1988, he was honored again by the Delphi American Legion Post with the Doctor Crampton Outstanding Legionnaire Award and also by Delphi Community School Corporation for his outstanding service and contributions to students and school programs.
  Surviving with his wife are one son, J. Edward Wagoner, M.D., West Lafayette; one daughter, Sherry A. Wagoner, Indianapolis; and two granddaughters.  He was preceded in death by two sisters.
  Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in Delphi with the Rev. Ellis Gasser officiating.  Burial with military rites by the Delphi American Legion Post will be at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Flora.  Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at Horn Funeral Home, Delphi, and one hour prior to services at the church.
  Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Delphi or the heart fund.
