Arthur Weddell

 Arthur O. "Mose" Weddell Jr., 85, of Bonita Beach, Fla., died at 7:14 p.m. on April 24, 2004, in Naples, Fla.
  Born in Jackson County on May 22, 1918, he was the son of Arthur O. and Hazel G. Lockman Weddell Sr.
  He was a 1936 graduate of Medora High School.  While playing basketball and baseball, he attended Indiana Central College and earned a bachelor's degree in education by 1940.  He earned a master's degree in education in 1948.
  His marriage was to Mabel Davis Kennedy in June 1946, and she survives.
  Mr. Weddell was a U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) veteran, serving as captain in Noumea, New Caledonia, with the First Barrage Balloon Squadron FMF in December 1942.  He was later sent to Guam with B. Btry., Heavy AAG, 14th AA Arty, BN.  He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater throughout World War II and was later bestowed the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal.  He was recalled to the USMC, and served from 1952 to 1956 at Camp LeJeune, NC.  He retired from the USMC as a major.
  He was a teacher, coach and principal in Medora.  He was a superintendent of Sunman Community Schools from 1956 to 1959 and Concord Community Schools from 1959 to 1962.  He moved to Iran and was superintendent of the American School in Tehran from 1962 to 1965.  He served as superintendent of Delphi Community School Corporation, and retired after 25 years.
  Mr. Weddell enjoyed traveling with his wife.
  He was a member of American Legion.  Retired Teachers Association, Masons Scottish Rite and Elks Club, and Bonita Springs (Fla.) First Presbyterian Church, where he served as deacon for six years.
  Also surviving are a son, Dr. James A. Weddell of Noblesville; a daughter, Mia Weddell-Wilson of Key Biscayne, Fla.; two brothers, Kermit Weddell of Bloomington and Jerry Weddell of Tampa., Fla.; two sister, Velma Johnston of Holiday, Fla., and Elaine Branaman of Salem; and seven grandchildren.
  He was preceded in death by a son, a sister and a brother.
  Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 1 at Winlepleck-Weesner Funeral Home in Brownstown.  Services will be at the funeral home immediately following the visitation at 2 p.m. Rev. Brad Napier will officiate and burial will be at Fariview Cemetery in Brownstown with full military rites.
  Memorials may be made to Riley Children's Hospital.  Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.
