Mary Shaffer (Clawson Brown)

Mary L (Shaffer) Clawson Brown, 86, passed away Friday, March 19, 2021 at White Oaks Health Campus in Monticello. She was born to the late Paul and Gladys Binney Shaffer on February 27, 1935 in Carroll County. She was raised on a farm in Adams Township, Carroll County. Mary attended Adams Twp. Schools and Burnettsville High School. Her senior year she moved to Delphi and graduated from Delphi High School in 1953. Mary married Dan W. Clawson on August 12, 1954 and he died in a car accident in 1983. They owned Clawson Appliance in Delphi. After Dan died, she and their children ran the business in Delphi and Monticello. On February 22, 1985 Mary married Glenn A. Brown and moved to his farm to become a farmer’s wife. Glenn passed away in 2013. She and Glenn traveled a lot with their friends and upon their retirement she turned the appliance business over to her children but continued to work at the Delphi store. She was a 66-year member of the Delphi United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, chaired the BBQ active in her Wesley Weds Sunday school class and helped whenever it was needed. She also was a 65-year member of Delphi Tri Kappa. Mary was a charter member of the Carroll County ARC. Mary is survived by her children: Anita (Mike) Force of Delphi, Eric (Deb) Clawson of Chalmers, Jay (Sharon) Clawson of Monticello and Patrick (Connie) Clawson of Delphi. Stepchildren: Rick (Connie) Brown of Delphi, Doug (Rita) Brown of Zionsville, Greg (Regina) Brown of Zionsville and Ron (Tammy) Brown of Springport. Nine grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren. Siblings: Ruthann Mehall, Jane Shaffer, Carol Barr and Bill Shaffer She is preceded by two daughters: Paula and Sara, husbands: Dan Clawson and Glenn Brown, brother: Charles Shaffer.

Mary’s Family will receive friends Saturday, March 27, 2021 from 2:00 PM till a celebration of Mary’s Life at 4:00 PM at the Delphi United Methodist Church. Pastor Micah Hudson will officiate. Burial to follow at Masonic Cemetery next to her first husband, Dan. Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer’s Associations or the Delphi UMC Church Camp Fund, envelopes will be available at the church. Abbott Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
