Frances Wingerd (Mahoney)

  Frances Wingerd Mahoney, 86, died at 8 p.m. March 5, 1993, at The Hermitage, Onancock, Va., where she and her husband have resided since 1983.
  Born Jan. 20, 1907, in Fulton County, she was the daughter of Aaron Franklin and Dora Sheridan Wingerd.
  She had been a librarian at the Indiana State Library.
  She graduated from Delphi High School in 1925 and from DePauw University in 1929.
  Her marriage was on Oct. 20, 1932, to Claude A. Mahoney, who survives.
  The Mahoneys moved to the Washington, D.C. area in 1936, where Mrs. Mahoney worked as a reference librarian.
  She served in the WAVES during World War II, edited the "Scrapbook" column in "The National Observer" and was an elementary school librarian for Fairfax County Schools in Fairfax, Va.
  Also surviving is a niece, Lois Mears of Delphi.
  Her body was willed to the University of Virginia for medical research.
