Helen Louise Shaffer Novatney, 86, of Elyria, Ohio, died May 1, 1993, at Elyria Memorial Hospital.
  She was born in Delphi, the daughter of Garfield and Grace Shaffer.  Her marriage was to Dr. R. C. Novatney in 1932.  He died in 1985.
  A 1925 graduate of Delphi High School and from Western College in Oxford, Ohio, in 1929, she taught art at Danville (Ill) High School from 1929-1932.  She was a member of First Congregational Church in Elyria and a former member of the Elyria Service League, Elyria Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Cosmopolitan Club of the YWCA and the Elyria Country Club.
  Surviving are one son, Raymond C. Jr., (Jerry), of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; one daughter, Sally Liverett of New Orleans; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one sister, Irene Mason of Delphi.
  Services and burial were last Wednesday in Elyria.
