Mary Studebaker (Gushwa)

Mary E. Studebaker Gushwa, 96, of Delphi, died at 8 a.m. April 8, 2001, at her residence. Born Dec. 26, 1904, in Carroll County, she was the daughter of Bertram and Fannie Gipson Studebaker. On March 22, 1957, she married Reed Gushwa in Delphi, and he died Dec. 26, 1986. Previously, she had been married to William Scott, and he preceded her in death. Mrs. Gushwa had been secretary to the superintendent of Delphi Community School Corporation. She was a former member of Pittsburg Church of the Brethren (now Living Faith Church of the Brethren). Surviving are one son, Joe Scott of Kent, Wash.; a daughter, Carol Ward of Belfair, Wash.; a stepson. Paul Gushwa of Eugene, Ore.; two stepdaughters. Ruth Mears Shultheis of Brookston and Joyce Oliver of Tucson, Ariz.; five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Services were today (Wednesday) at Davidson Funeral Home with Pastors David Els and Todd Wenger officiating. Burial was in IOOF Cemetery, Delphi. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wabash & Erie Canal, Inc. - Interpretive Center.
