George Wason

George N. Wason, 54, of Flora, trustee of Monroe township and president of the Carroll Consolidated School Board, died of a heart attack at his residence at 7:45 p.m. Sunday night. Mr. Wason was first stricken with a heart condition four years ago but had remained active in community affairs. A member of a prominent family in Carroll county, Wason was born Oct. 28, 1907 in Delphi the son of William B. and Clelia Newcomer Wason. His father was the owner of the Wason Dry Goods Company in Delphi until his death. After graduating from Delphi high school, George was graduated from Wabash College in 1929 where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He was a former deputy Carroll county auditor and for a number of years was employed in the accounting department of the Delphi Body Works. In recent years he had owned and operated an insurance agency in Flora. He was a past president of the Flora Rotary Club; a member of the Flora Community Club; St. Mary’s Episcopal Church of Delphi and was completing his second term as trustee of Monroe township. Surviving are the widow, Helen Myer Wason to whom he was married Aug. 30, 1942; two sons, James M. and William M. both at home; a brother, Robert M. of Indianapolis, a sister Mrs. C. E. Bowen of Champaign, Illinois. Another brother, William “Nick” died in service in World War II. Rites were conducted Wednesday at the Carter funeral home with Rev. James Hunter officiating. Burial was in Maple Lawn cemetery.
