LaVerne Goff - Class Of 1926

Ernest LaVerne Goff, 65, retired Delphi businessman, died unexpectedly at 4 a.m. Tuesday at his home, 703 E. Monroe St., Delphi, the day after his birthday.
  Born August 13, 1908, in Bluffton, he was the son of James and Lillie Brown Goff.  He was reared from infancy by his stepmother, the former Anna O'Haver, after the death of his mother.  His marriage to Marie Albright was Dec. 10, 1932.
  Mr. Goff joined his father in Goff's Variety Store in Delphi in 1932 and upon the father's death in 1956, he and his wife became sole owners.  They sold the store and retired January 1, 1971.
  He was graduated in 1926 from Delphi High School and in 1931 from the School of Pharmacy at Butler University.  A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a past commander of Harry Bohannon Post 75, American Legion and served several years as a Scoutmaster.  He was a member of the Delphi United Methodist Church, IOOF Lodge No. 28 and Masonic Lodge No. 48.
  Surviving with his wife are two sons, James of Wabash and Tom of Mishawaka; a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Friend of Metropolis, Ill.; and six grandchildren.
  Services will be at 2 o'clock Thursday in Delphi United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert V. Dyer of Wabash officiating.  Interment will be in Masonic Cemetery with American Legion graveside services.
  Friends may call at Jackson Funeral Home and at the church where the body will lie in state for an hour before the service.
