Ada Welday (Roach) - Class Of 1926

The entire community was shocked and grieved early Wednesday to learn of the sudden and untimely death of County Auditor Ada Roach.  She passed away at her home at 527 East Main Street, at 6:30 a.m.  Although she had been in ill health since last November, she had been in her office every day until Tuesday.  Her daughter, Susan, was called home from Indiana University Tuesday and was with her at the time of her death.
Born in Delphi March 22, 1906, she was a daughter of James and Carolyn (Schweiger) Welday.  Her husband, Robert J. Roach, preceded her in death in 1945.
Mrs. Roach was a graduate of the Delphi high school, a member of the Delphi Presbyterian church, Gamma Alpha Chapter of Tri Kappa and the Legion Auxiliary.
For two years she served as clerk-stenographer in the County Welfare office in 1943 and 1944.  For six years she served as deputy county auditor when Russell Hafter was county auditor and was re-elected four years later.  Her second term would have ended on Dec. 31, 1958.
Surviving are a son and a daughter, Robert C. Roach and Susan A. Roach, both student at Indiana University.  She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Dale Maxwell, of route 2, Delphi, and a brother, Everett Welday, at Rensselaer.
Funeral rites will be held at the Jackson Funeral Home, at 1:30 p.m. Friday.  Friends may call at the funeral home after 1:00 p.m. Thursday.
Rev. James W. Rankin will officiate at final rites and burial will be made in the St. Joseph cemetery.
