Edward Ferrier

  John E. "Ed" Ferrier, Jr., 95, formerly of Wabash, died March 4, 2006.
  Born in Lafayette Home Hospital on July 12, 1910, he was the son of John E. and Grace Chapman Ferrier of Delphi.  He was a 1928 graduate of Delphi High School.
  His marriage was to Virginia Lippert, who had been his wife for 43 years.
  Mr. Ferrier started working in the newspaper shop as a printer's devil at the Delphi Journal.
  He served in the Indiana National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1932.
  In 1936, he began working for the Michigan City News-Dispatch, running and repairing linotype machines, setting ads and composing pages.
  In 1944, he moved his family to Wabash and became the mechanical superintendent at the Wabash Plain Dealer.  He retired in 1975 as business manager of the paper.
  Mr. Ferrier was a member of the Wabash Shrine Club, Wabash Masonic Lodge, Fort Wayne Scottish Rite and a lifetime member of the Wabash Elks Club.
  Surviving are two sons, James Ferrier of Colorado Springs, Colo., and John E. Ferrier III of Topeka, Kan.; two daughters, Gwen Ferrier Ford of Indianapolis and Marjorie Ferrier Lang of Tulsa, Okla.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
  He was preceded in death by his wife and by his daughter, Rosemary Ferrier Jones.
  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriner's Burn Hospital, 3229 Burnet Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45229.
  Service will be today in Tulsa, Okla.
