Everett Welday, Prominent Rensselaer Resident, Dies Everett James Welday of 825 W. Washington Street, who became identified with Rensselaer business life in 1930 and in retirement of recent years due to ill health, passed away in Veterans' Administration hospital in Indianapolis at 7:30 p.m., Sunday. The popular citizen,, who was an Army veteran of World War II, had been in ill health for twelve years and hospitalized at the military hospital for four months. He lacked but two days of being fifty-six years of age, having been born in Carroll county July 12, 1910, the son of James D. Welday and Caroline (Sweitger) Welday. He was educated in the schools of his native community and came to Rensselaer from Delphi for residence in May, 1930. For a number of years he owned and operated a dry cleaning establishment and later he was an automobile salesman, after which he went into business retirement because of failing health. His marriage to Miss Marjorie Walker of Rensselaer and formerly of Carroll county, took place in Crown Point on March 7, 1936. All of their married life was spent in this city. Mr. Welday was a member of Dewey Biggs American Legion Post of Rensselaer. The only immediate survivor with Mrs. Welday is a sister, Mrs. Dale (Anna) Maxwell, of Delphi. He was preceded in death by two sisters and by one brother. Mr. Welday was universally popular with our people, a congenial personality whose friendliness and his concern for the welfare of the many who care to know him were outstanding. The funeral services will be held from Jackson Funeral Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. James A. Hilton of First Christian church of Rnsselaer conducting the rites. Interment will be in Weston cemtery.
