Robert Popejoy - Class Of 1929

Robert Z. Popejoy, 61, of Delphi, died Saturday at approximately 4 p.m. while walking up the hill to the parking lot following the Purdue - Ohio football game at West Lafayette. He suffered a heart attack. Born March 13, 1909, at Rockfield, he was the son of George and Leah Secrest Popejoy. He was a wholesale produce man and owned Popejoy Cole Slaw at Delphi. He was a veteran of World War II. His marriage March 30, 1937, was to Martha Goff. Mr. Popejoy was a member of the Delphi United Methodist Church, I.O.O.F. Lodge 28, American Legion Post 75 and Tipwa Grange. He was graduated in 1929 from Delphi High School. Surviving with the widow are a son, Tom, in the United States Army, who is home on leave; a daughter, Mrs. Richard D. (Roberta) Brown of Rt. 3, Lafayette; five brothers, Clarence of Flora, Russell of Logansport, Charlie of Chicago, Walter of Allentown, Pennsylvania, and Ivan of Phoenix, Arizona; two sisters, Mrs. Richard Hanen of Indianapolis and Mrs. Faye Cossell of Tennessee. Funeral services were Tuesday afternoon at Delphi United Methodist Church. The Rev. David Abel officiated. Interment was in the Masonic Cemetery with military graveside rites.
