David Baum - Class Of 1929

David R. Baum, 77, of Rt. 4, Delphi, died at 10 p.m. Aug. 11, 1989, at St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center, where he had been a patient one day.
  Born Sept. 27, 1911, in Delphi, he was the son of Theodore H. and Pearl Reed Baum.  He lived in the same house all of his life.  It had been the home of his parents and grandparents.
  His first marriage was June 19, 1949, to Kathleen Bingman, who died in 1965.  His second marriage was Dec. 27, 1967, in Joliet, Ill., to Margaret Rusk Graham, who survives.
  He was a retired attorney.  He served as judge protem of the Carroll Circuit Court during his early years of law practice, served four terms as Carroll County Prosecuting Attorney, and was formerly attorney for Carroll County.
  He was a 1929 graduate of Delphi High School and a 1937 graduate of the I.U. School of Law.
  An Army veteran of World War II, he received the Silver Star and the Bronze Star in 1945.  He was a Lt. Col.  He joined the Army in 1942, and after serving on active duty, was in the Reserves until retiring in 1962.
  He served in the Indiana National Guard for three years and was former Commander at F. Benjamin Harrison with the Army Reserve.  He was admitted to the U.S. Court of Military Appeals and served on the board.
  He was active in the Carroll County Republican Party and had served as County Chairman.  He served two terms as president of the Carroll County Old Settlers Association and served on the board of directors for the Indiana Veterans Home in West Lafayette.
  His memberships included Delphi First Presbyterian Church, Indiana State Bar Association, Carroll County Bar Association, Elks Lodge 143 in Lafayette, Delphi American Legion Post 75, Indiana Chapter Reserve Officers Association of the U.S. (past president); 40 et 8 Voiture 364 of Lafayette; Delphi Mt. Olive Masonic Lodge 48, VFW Post 3790 in Logansport, Indianapolis Valley Scottish Rite, Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and charter member of the Delphi Rotary Club.
  Surviving with his wife, Margaret, are on stepson, John S. Graham of Scottsdale, Ariz; a sister, Edith Miller of Indianapolis; three stepgrandchildren and one step great-grandaughter.
  Services were Monday at Horn Funeral Home with Rev. Ellis Gasser officiating.  Burial was in IOOF Cemetery with military rites by Ft. Benjamin Harrison.
