Ruth Smith (Patrick) - Class Of 1929

Services for Ruth P. Patrick, 74, of Delphi will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Delphi First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. James Rankin will officiate. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery. She died Monday, June 3, 1985, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette where she had been a patient for five days. Born October 20, 1910, in Carroll County, she was the daughter of Tom and Goldie Atkinson Smith. Her marriage on October 20, 1934, in Danville, Ill., was to Jesse E. Patrick, who died in 1970. In 1953 she became a cashier- order clerk for Central States Gas Company in Delphi. When the firm was purchased by Northern Indiana Public Service Company in 1965, she continued with them in the same job until retiring in 1975. From 1942 until 1952, she and her husband owned and operated The Patrick Mortuary in Delphi, which is now Horn Funeral Home. They owned and operated Pat’s Cafe in Delphi in the 1930s. Both worked at Moore & Kirk Mortuary in Indianapolis in the late 1940s and early 1950s. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was a trustee and treasurer, member and Past Worthy Matron of Rose Chapter of Order of Eastern Star, Gamma Alpha Associate Chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa sorority and was currently serving as treasurer, and a former member of Modern Homemakers EH Club. Friends may call at Horn Funeral Home today from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9. Tri Kappa will hold a Memorial service at 7.
